Message :It requires a direct connection to the battery because of the higher wattage internal amp. Did you actually run a 10 guage wire from the battery through the firewall? This would bypass the ignition wiring, which means the unit can be powered on whether the car is on or not right?

Running the power directly to the battery does not bypass the ignition wiring, as you stated. All modern-day stereos have an ACC remote, which connects to ignition. You have to have voltage on the ACC lead to turn on the stereo. The direct-connection provides power only. Think of the ACC lead as a remote lead, or a power switch. No voltage on ACC, the stereo is off.
